O TEATRO DE CORDEL DE JOÃO AUGUSTO ENTRE ARQUIVO(S), EDIÇÃO E ESTUDO DE TEXTOS

This thesis presents the study of the dramaturgy of João Augusto from a philological perspective, seeking to make public his artistic and intellectual trajectory throughout the edition and study of texts adapted from cordel literature. In this work, we sought to contextualize the texts in their production and transmission. We have immersed in the archives and collections, scrutinizing the places where the documents relating to the history and memory of João Augusto are kept, in an attempt to try to understand his production, reading the individual João Augusto as a "filed individual". We have considered the purpose of the cordel theatrical presentations, concerning also the relationship of João Augusto and Drama Groups from Bahia and between João Augusto and popular poets, analysis which we have made from the collected and adapted brochures and leaflets. We have selected, for the means of editing and critical study of the texts adapted from cordel literature, with its censorship documents, the following titles, in Brazilian Portuguese: O exemplo edificante de Maria Nocaute ou Os valores do homem Primitivo, Felismina Engole-Brasa, A mulher/As bagaceiras do Amor and O marido que passou o cadeado na boca da mulher. The edition had the purpose to show the history of the dramatic text of João Augusto, from the simple leaflet to the drama text, and make accessible to the public other documents which were part of the circulation of these texts, such as commentaries, press material, photographs, among others. We have also performed a critical reading of the adaptation process. We have completed this work revealing some forms of writing of João Augusto for the composition of cordel dramaturgy texts.
